fominaya_smCoach Fominaya is returning to Gulf Coast High School as the fourth head coach in school history. Coach Fominaya is a graduate of Gulf Coast High School and is excited to return to his alma mater. Coach Fominaya is joining us from Lehigh Senior High School where he was the head football coach of the Lightning program for three successful seasons. Coach Fominaya took over a struggling program at Lehigh Senior and in 2009 he was able to lead the program to the Class 3A Regional Finals in his first season after which he was selected as the “Southwest Florida Coach of the Year” by the News-Press for their remarkable season. During his tenure at Lehigh Senior High School the Lightning were able to go to four playoff games in three years. Along with four playoff appearances, Lehigh consistently beat both of their local rivals winning both East Lee County traveling trophies (Beast of the East and Battle of the Bell). Along with winning football games, Coach Fominaya had three FHSAA All-State players, six FACA All-District players, twelve News-Press All-Area players, and thirteen LCAC All-Lee County selections. Coach Fominaya also assisted more than 25 Lightning players to achieve their goal of playing college football.

Before arriving at Lehigh Senior High School, Coach Fominaya coached at Naples High school from the 2005-2009. During his time at Naples High school the Golden Eagles had a record of 50 wins and 7 losses. The Golden Eagles won the Class 3A FHSAA State championship in 2007 and finished the season ranked the #7 team in the country. Coach Fominaya was also a part of a regional championship, two regional finals and three district championships. After the 2007 season Coach Fominaya was recognized as one of the top assistant coaches in the country and was asked to speak at the Nike Coach of the Year clinic and the University of Wake Forest coach’s clinic in Winston Salem, NC. Coach Fominaya coached an All-American Player, nine All-State Players and was able to help over 30 players get recruited to play college football. Before coming to Naples High School, Coach Fominaya coached at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL as a varsity defensive assistant coach and coached the defensive line.

Coach Fominaya earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business at Elmhurst College in Illinois where he was a four year letter winner and was selected to the Illinois Prairie All State Team. Coach Fominaya was on the inaugural team at Gulf Coast High school in 1998. He was one of the first team captains and was part of the school’s first varsity football win and playoff appearance. He was also Gulf Coast High school’s first alumni to play college football which is an honor for which he is very proud. Coach Fominaya married to his beautiful wife and best friend Patty in 2007. They have recently become the proud parents of their new daughter Grace Noelle who was born in December 2011.
